Best Electric Toothbrush: Everyone is aware of how important proper oral hygiene is; the importance cannot be overemphasized, for both your dental health and of course your overall health as well. It’s a well-known fact that diseases of the gum are a major risk factor when it comes to developing other serious health conditions, which include diabetes and heart disease.
Starting way back when we were young, our parents taught us the importance of regularly brushing our teeth, in order to not only keep our teeth clean, but our gums healthy. But the question we need to ask is: how do we find the best toothbrush?
Toothbrushes that use bristles made of nylon were invented back in the latter part of the 1930s. People wishing to choose a toothbrush did not have a great deal of options. Of course, nowadays, the situation has completely changed. The majority of retail stores selling products for oral hygiene now have a multitude of various types of toothbrushes for sale, these include both electric powered and manual (read that as old-style) toothbrushes.
Now, let’s think about this honestly; does anyone like to go to the dentist? First they put you in an uncomfortable position in a chair that is tilted, as the dentist stuffs several instruments into your mouth, for what seems like an eternity. Then, just to make sure you’re really uncomfortable, they expect you to tell them what you been doing since you were last there, all while asking you to open your mouth more and more until you think it will break.
You might be asking yourself how you can keep those apprehensive-filled visits as short as possible. Of course, skipping the visit to the dentist is never recommended, however there are several good options that can keep your teeth white and healthy.
Even your dentist will tell you, proper oral care is the best way to keep your teeth healthy. Now, we are not going to dwell on the topic of flossing; the professionals seem to have that handled. We are going to tell you how you can be at the leading edge of oral hygiene. It’s a very simple secret; electric toothbrushes.
Way back when the traditional toothbrush was an important and key component to proper oral hygiene, several companies took steps that make oral care simpler and easier. Electric toothbrushes today have a variety of attributes. Some give real-time feedback, some have pulsating bristle heads; there is even one that has added a water floss ability to their package. You have probably noticed that there are a great deal of electric toothbrush types from which you can choose. We have looked at many selections and have come up with the best electric toothbrushes that are available for you to choose from.
It was once considered a chore to clean your teeth; however, with the advent of the electric toothbrush, this chore has been forever changed. Just like other power tools, an electric toothbrush does all the hard work for you.
Electric toothbrushes not only help with the sore arms associated with your brushing, they have also been designed to give you the best possible cleaning results. You no longer have to worry about your standard manual brush, or brushing technique, as your new electric toothbrush will completely take care of any failings in your method. You may want to be sure you really need an electric toothbrush, because they can be a costly investment.
It can be a little baffling trying to find the best electric toothbrush for your needs. If you’d like a comparison, picking out the correct smart phone is probably easier for the majority of people. Electric toothbrushes come with many different features: there are those that rotate, some that pulsate, and when you get to the elite variety, there are those that utilize ultrasonic sound as a way to accomplish the cleaning of your teeth.

#1 Philips Sonicare DiamondClean
This is the Rolls-Royce of electric toothbrushes. The Philips’ DiamondClean carries a very high price tag, but at the same time provides features, fantastic performance, and many extras as well. The brush is sleek and slim, with an interface that is easy to use. You can switch between modes as well as turn it on and off with a single button. It tells you what mode you are using by illuminating that area when in use. The charging station has a drinking-glass style. We found that the various modes offer to be impressive. There are five separate options that run from the basic mode level, for cleaning your teeth, with enough power to remove plaque, all the way to the polish, which helps you to brighten your teeth with a minute long mode. Our testers were thrilled with this option. One of our testers said “my mouth felt like it was being pressure washed”; another stated “after using this toothbrush, I felt like I had already had a cleaning from the dentist!” The Philips was rated as the most comfortable brush by our volunteers. They found it easy to hold and use. Several of our volunteers commented particularly on the small size of the brush head and brush, stating that it made brushing easier when reaching for the back teeth.
If this is your first time using an electric toothbrush, the DiamondClean has a start program built in which allows you to easily begin using an electronic toothbrush. The program begins with an extremely gentle mode and then the power is slowly increased as you brush for the first 14 times. In this way you can avoid any excessive irritation as you grow accustomed to the increased power. There is also a sensitive mode which is extra-gentle, that can be used for cleaning if you are still in need of a softer brush. Philips has made it easy for you to take their brush with you when you travel. They have included a USB charger which can be used to power up your toothbrush from your laptop; this is an extremely unique feature. They have even made the charging station dishwasher safe, when placed on the top rack. With the large range of modes and features and a customer rating that is extremely high, this electric toothbrush is among our favorites.
#2 Oral-B ProfessionalCare SmartSeries 5000 (most bang for the buck)
This electric toothbrush is the best value. For those who wish to have the same kind of feedback they would get from a dentist while they brush, this would be your choice. Oral-B believes this is a good way to help you with your brushing. They have a equipped this toothbrush with a “wireless digital smart guide”, which monitors several aspects of your brushing. These include how much pressure you are using, how fast you are brushing, and it even has a timer that counts down in order for you to know when you have finished a full two minutes of brushing. This brush will oscillate, rotate, and pulse, while at the same time giving you the ability to customize for a perfect clean. Oral-B refers to this as 3-D tech.
#3 Oral-B ProfessionalCare 1000
The Oral-B ProfessionalCare 1000 was considered by our staff to be the electric toothbrush that was most user-friendly. It provides an instruction manual that is quite comprehensive, and with single button controls, and is easy to use. Three modes are offered by this brush. These include whitening, daily clean, and sensitive. Our testers were impressed with how clean their teeth were after using this brush. Our staff found that the compact size of this brush and its ability to get to all areas within their mouths completely was a definite bonus. One commented she “loved the fact of how easily the brush got to the small areas in her mouth.” The smaller head of the Oral-B was the only downside. There were some who tested this brush who complained of having to use less toothpaste than they would have preferred, and that brushing their whole tongue took longer. Even though there were testers who mentioned that the oscillation was a bit harsh for those with more sensitive mouths, the unit does come with a pressure sensor built-in, which helps to avoid further irritation. When excessive pressure is placed on the brush, it stops pulsating; when this occurs the head continues to oscillate. Of all the electric toothbrushes tested by our staff, this was the most compact and lightest of the rechargeables (not battery-operated). If you are looking for a rechargeable brush to take with you as you travel, the Oral-B would be an excellent choice.

Oral-B Triaction 1000 Electric Toothbrush
Oral-B has introduced the new traction range. This brand-new style of electric toothbrush has heads that sleep as opposed to rotating. The Triaction 1000 appears to be very promising as they have included a better battery with their new product. The question of course is how well does it take care of your teeth; in order to find out, check out our review.
Waterpik Sensonic Professional
If you’re looking for an electric toothbrush with flexibility, take a look at the Waterpik Sensonic Professional. Three separate brush heads are provided with this brush; a compact, a standard, and an interdental tool. They can all be easily stored on the base, which is also the charger. This charger, if you prefer, can be wall-mounted. The WaterPik is very easy to use, with just one button it will not only turn the unit off and on, but also cycles the two available settings. It was found by some of our staff that the button was a little sensitive and was easily hit accidentally. Those who tested the unit would like to have seen a medium setting as opposed to just the low gentle speed and the high vigorous speed available. Overall however, they were pleased with the job the brush did at cleaning their teeth. One stated “I enjoyed how clean my teeth felt after using this brush” and another said “the action of the bristles is great.” The WaterPik has a unique quad timer feature, which makes sure that you spend the correct amount of time in each section of your mouth as you clean. This brush allows time between quadrants so you can reposition the unit without the loss of brushing time. This was the only unit in our test that allowed this.
It should be noted that this is not a travel-friendly model. The WaterPik is not as portable as other electric toothbrushes. It weighs 7.2 ounces, making it the second heaviest electric toothbrush we tested. It is also the largest we tested, being more than 10 inches in height. There were comments from our staff, regarding how aggressive the vibrations from the brush were, particularly when set to high. If you are one of those with sensitive gums, this is most likely not the brush for you. However, with the inexpensive cost of brush head replacements and its initial cost, the overall price is difficult to beat.
